MODERN STANDARD ARABIC
Are you interested in learning a new language or enhancing your Arabic language skills? We offer four levels of Modern Standard Arabic language courses to introduce you to the 5th most commonly used language in the world and some amazing culture or to help you to increase your confidence in your current knowledge and understanding!
These courses are aimed at building and developing skills in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA), the language read and understood by educated Arabs from the Arabian peninsula to Morocco, and are offered in response to the expanding Arabic Community in Canada and interested learners who need to learn the language for non-credit purposes.

Lecture Topics
Modern Standard Arabic Level 1
This is an introductory course of Modern Standard Arabic language at the end of which you will be able to listen and understand required material in the text book, and read, write, and speak at a beginner level.
You will be introduced to the Arabic script and phonetic system, will acquire basic vocabulary, essential grammatical concepts, practice short dialogues, and have elementary knowledge of Arabic culture.
During this term, the course will cover the introductory book, Alif Baa (including the Arabic alphabet, diacritical marks, and speech sounds).
By the end of the semester, in addition to knowing the Arabic alphabet and being able to read simple and basic MSA sentences, you will be able to introduce yourself and communicate where you are from, where you live, and what you are studying. You will be able to read and write simple structures in MSA and write basic sentences about yourself.
Modern Standard Arabic Level 2
This is a continuation of the introductory course of Modern Standard Arabic language at the end of which you will be able to listen and understand required material in the text book, and read, write, and speak at a beginner level.
You will be introduced to the Arabic script and phonetic system, you will acquire basic vocabulary, essential grammatical concepts, practice short dialogues, and have elementary knowledge of Arabic culture.
During this course, four lessons will be covered (from 1-4) in al-KitaabfiiTa`alumal`Arabiyya: A Textbook for Beginning Arabic, Part One. Each lesson includes vocabulary, grammar, drills, and video examples of conversation situations.
By the end of the semester, you will be able to read brief MSA texts, ads, news items, etc.
You will also be able to introduce yourself and communicate where you are from, where you live, what you are studying, what you like/do not like to do, and ask your peers questions regarding reciprocal information.
Modern Standard Arabic Level 3
This course is the first level of Intermediate Arabic Language. It includes pronunciation, reading, writing, and conversation in familiar contexts.
This course aims to develop your skills in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA), the language read and understood by educated Arabs from Iraq to Morocco, through systematic instruction and drills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
During this course, four lessons (from 5-8) will be covered in al-KitaabfiiTa`alumal`Arabiyya: A Textbook for Beginning Arabic, Part One. Each lesson includes vocabulary, grammar, drills, and video examples of conversation situations.
By the end of the semester, you will be able to read intermediate level of MSA texts, ads, news items, etc. You will also be able to introduce yourself and communicate where you are from, where you live, what you are studying, what you like/do not like to do, and ask your peers questions regarding reciprocal information. You will also be able to describe your family members and your peers.
Modern Standard Arabic Level 4
During this course, five lessons (from 9-13) will be covered in al-KitaabfiiTa`alumal`Arabiyya: A Textbook for Beginning Arabic, Part One. Each lesson includes vocabulary, grammar, drills, and video examples of conversation situations.
By the end of the semester, you will be able to read intermediate level of MSA texts, ads, news items, etc. You will also be able to introduce yourself with more details and communicate where they you from, where you live, what you are studying, what you like/do not like to do, and ask your peers questions regarding reciprocal information. You will also be able to describe your family members and your peers, in familiar and non-familiar but simple contexts.

About Neemat Khursan
Neemat Khursan’s received a minor in education, and major in french at the University of 糖心logo in Edmonton. She has been teaching Arabic for 3 years to young children, and is currently teaching Arabic X-101 to university students. Neemat is always happy to help people with translating English to Arabic and vice versa. Neemat believes that learning different languages can strengthen connections with other cultures and bring individuals closer together.
